Resort Course
A resort course can have you diving in a day! It is also known as ‘introductory’ or ‘beginner’ scuba diving. It is designed as an experience course.

This course is for guests who don’t hold a diving licence but wish to participate in fun scuba diving. It’s a fun and safe activity, and no prior scuba diving experience is necessary. Whether it’s your very first time visiting the underwater world, or you’ve been scuba diving before. Our professional Dive Instructors will guide you on fun and interactive tour around the Guanaja’s pristine waters of the coral reefs.

You learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of a Diving Professional. If you make an open water dive, you’ll practice a few more skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure.
Prerequisites:
  1. Age: Minimum age is 18 for participation; however, students between the ages of 10 and 17 inclusive are allowed to participate with written consent from parent or legal guardian.
  2. Prior to Orientation: None Required.
  3. Prior Experience: Demonstrate comfort and adequate swimming skills
During this Experience Scuba Course, you will first receive basic instruction, and then you will master basic concepts and scuba skills, all while experiencing a vibrant shallow water dive, surrounded by Guanaja’s marine life.

All required study material and dive gear rentals are provided with this Resort Course. Drinking water is also included.
Open Water Course
Open Water Sport Diver (OWSD)

Did you know that more than 70% of the world is covered in water?

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to Scuba Dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts, on the island of Guanaja!

In the Open Water Sport Diver course your SCUBA Instructor will teach you in 4 days the basics of scuba diving. You will do 5 dives over the 4 days.
At the age of 10 years, you can start with the course!  You will start in shallow water (confined water) and in the academic side you get the necessary background knowledge. 
Open Water Sport Diver certification allows you to dive up to 18m (60 ft). This is your first step!
As a certified diver, you’ll meet so many new people and enjoy new underwater adventures wherever you go in the World! And whilst you continue your adventure, you can gain experience through higher training levels.

Prerequisites:

Age: Minimum age is 18 for participation; however, students between the ages of 1.10 and 17 inclusive are allowed to participate with written consent from parent or legal guardian.

Minimum age is 15 years for OWSD certification. (Students Between the 2. ages of 10 and 15 may qualify for a Junior OWSD certification that stipulates that they may dive with the permission and direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who is at least an open water certified diver. At age 15, they may upgrade to they may upgrade to Open Water Sport Diver certification.)

Prior Certification: None Prior Dive Experience: None
  1. Day1 Orientation to course 5:00 pm
  2. 7:30 am Confined Water, 3:00 pm Academics
  3. 7:30 am Dives 1,2 & 3 (max depth 12 meters/40ft), 3:00 pm Academics and final exam
  4. 7:30 am Dives 4 & 5 (max depth 18 meters/60ft, 2:00 pm paperwork
Open Water Referral
Have you already completed your classroom and pool sessions with your local dive shop? If so, let Barrier Reef Dive Center can finish your certification. Complete your 4 to 5 check out dives in the calm clear waters of the Bay Island of Guanaja.

Time: 2 Half Days (2 or 3 boat dives per day)
Includes: All rental gear, 4 to 5 dives and certification card
